Last Thursday my mom and I decided to go camping down in southern Virginia in the George Washington National Forest. About three hours south of D.C. We were heading that way anyways to visit a friend. So why not throw in the camping gear and make a night of it too?
We got up at 6am Thursday morning, packed the car and took off for Lynchberg, VA. After much driving and a sore neck, we arrived, chatted for some time (5 hours!) then off to the Sherando Lake park. It was a great time. Well except for the guy that drove by twice, slowly, late at night and scared us enough to jump ship and move our campsite in the dark (we forgot a flashlight) next to the host campsite. Once we moved and got help from another campsite we relaxed and curled up in our sleeping bags and laughed about it. Doesn't exactly make you want to camp huh? No really, it was fun!
Since we stayed overnight we were able to hike that evening the next morning for four hours in the moutains. Fabulous view and perfect weather. It was great mother-daughter time! Here's a pic of my mom with the moutains in the background.Laura
