Midwest Trip

On the 8/15/08 I flew to Chicago with Miles. He just turned 3 weeks old that morning. He did so well at the airport, even after my flight was delayed. I stayed in Chicago for a few days seeing my Grandma, then headed to Indiana to hang out at our family's cabin. Geoff drove out later in the week to join in on the fun. Here are some pictures from the adventure.

Kyle & Laura's Wedding

Our first road trip as a family! The three of us headed up to Deep Creek Lake, MD for the day for our friend's wedding. We normally head to Deep Creek for triathlon training so this was a new experience. It was so strange going up there without training gear or dogs!

Geoff & I just looked at each other in amazement, and said "we have a baby in the back!". Miles did absolutely wonderful the whole six hours of driving and at the wedding! We couldn't have a better baby.

How we decided on the name Miles Gideon

I’ve had many people ask me where the name Miles Gideon came from. So I though I’d write it here. In picking out names there were a few thoughts:
  • We wanted it unique
  • Still easy to pronounce & spell
  • And have significance to us
Miles
I actually don't know anyone with the name Miles. Miles is a name/word that I have always liked since I was young – high school or college time. I thought of it one day when running all those miles in training and have wanted to use it ever since. It means peaceful soldier. Nickname Milo. Geoff fell in love with it, as it is fitting to our sports lifestyle together and all the miles we’ve traveled to be together. Thus the name was born.

Gideon
We wanted to use a strong biblical name, yet still have it be unique. Gideon was a perfect match. He was a man of great faith. One “who by faith conquered kingdoms” Hebrews 11:32 . We were actually looking at using Gideon as the first name for a while. But once our baby boy was born Miles Gideon fit perfectly.

Spinal Headache Prayer Answered

I am nauseous free at last after 9 1/2 months of feeling sick as a dog. How wonderful it feels! I had almost forgotten what it was like not to feel sick all the time. Now only if this headache would go away. My head was pounding since I got home from the hospital. Not a dull pound, but a severe throbbing. Nothing like I've had before. Is this the replacement of not feeling nauseous?

After a week of suffering I went into the doctors office on Friday. The conclusion, I have a spinal headache caused by spinal fluid leaking from the site of the spinal tap used in my c-section surgery. After talking with the Anesthesiologist who did my surgery the plan was to wait two-three days. I was to do nothing, staying as still as possible to help the opening heal over. If nothing got resolved we'd go back into my spine and fill up the hole with 10cc of my blood. Not exactly what I wanted done.

I got home that afternoon and prayed about it. I took my full dose of recovery drugs and laid on the couch for hours. Last thing I want is to go back into the operating room. When I finally got up in the evening to head to bed, it was gone. Saturday morning it didn't come back either and I haven't had the headache since! Sometimes God answers our prayers right away. Thanks God. I feel like a new person now!
