Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone! I had a wonderful time in Minnesota with my family and friends. After two weeks there Geoff, Miles (5 months old), the two dogs and I made the 20 hour trek cross country back home. What a crazy thing to do but we accomplished it without any major problems. We timed it so we left MN at Miles bed time on Sunday. Then drove through the night and got here at 2pm Monday.

It seems so quite and lonely here now. And I'm pretty exhausted. Not exactly the most exciting birthday. Home is a hard place to come back to after all the fun. Here are some pictures from the trip:

The Joy of Running

This last week running became a joy again. Don't get me wrong, I have always loved running and always will. But it's been a tough battle these last few months, actually more like a year. The pregnancy was harder on me then I let anyone know. I was so sick during it that many days it was a battle just to stay afloat and not be consumed by depression. Running, my normal outlet, became a chore. It made me feel sicker afterwards instead of better. It became harder and harder to do as the weight came on and my joints loosened. It was too much. I stopped any serious running after I completed my 1/2 marathon around 5 months.

Post pregnancy has been a challenge too. I had to wait until three months before I could start because of my delivery. I've now been running again for a month. It's hard. My lungs burn, my legs throb and I am so out of breath I just want to stop and walk. My pace is so slow I feel I could walk faster. Many days I wonder will I enjoy this again...

There was something about the run the other day that just made me beam from ear to ear. I felt like my old self again, pre baby, pre pregnancy, pre injuries, pre dogs. Just me and my running shoes. It was cold and dark outside. The type of day most would have stayed on the couch. Something inside me wanted to get out. Freedom from it all, all the the responsibilities we take on. It had just finished raining so a wet coolness was in the air. I ran with ease. My shoes pounding against the pavement. My eyes glistening in the light of the moon. My heart beating with joy. No burning lungs or throbbing legs. Just me and my joy of running. It felt so wonderful. Thanks God for allowing me the ability to run and find your joy in it, in this hectic world.

Miles turned 4 months old on the 25th of November. We had his doctor appt the week before. He now really notices sounds and event around him. He loves chewing on everything in reach including his toes and our hands.

Here are the latest stats:
  • Height: 24 inches
  • Weight: 13 lbs 8.2 oz
  • Health: Excellent
  • Notes: Lots of drool...

Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving morning we did a 2 mile walk with Cyndie, Miles & the dogs.  Then a "Beaty" tradition, a 5 mile fun run.  However this time we had the dogs in tow as it was a small town race. Being my usual self, I got frustrated how easy it was for Geoff, while I had to work so hard.   So I ran so hard that I thought I was going to puke. The sad thing is I didn't even break an 8 minute mile.  But all said, not too bad for just being pregnant 4 months ago.  Next time I'm taking it easy...

We had our Thanksgiving meal with Geoff's family in the afternoon at his parents house.  We enjoyed some wonderful cooking, and great family company. Miles was even awake to hang out at the table during the meal. Left to right: Cyndie, Angie, Ruben, Eddie, Geoff, Miles & Gerry.

Thanksgiving evening sunset in the backyard.  It was so beautiful I ran outside and took a picture.

Baby & Me Update

I am loving life as a new parent. It has been such a joy to spend my days with Miles. I can't even begin to explain the joy he brings me everyday. Being a mom is such an amazing thing.

Some of the first's these past few weeks:
  • bike ride (see previous post)
  • found his toes
  • Puts his lips together and blows bubbles and noises
  • Time in the exersaucer
  • laughs and giggle with us even more

All he did was eat the seat during his first time in the exersaucer

First Bike Trip

We headed out for our first bike ride as a family this past weekend. It was a gorgeous fall day. We couldn't resist. Geoff figured a way to strap the car seat into the Burley so Miles could come along and still have lots of head support. Off we went for a 2 hour trip down the W&OD!

Miles First Halloween

Halloween has come and gone already. But here are some of the pictures for Miles dressed up. We dressed up for our mom's group on Wednesday, a visit with our Grandma on Thursday. Miles and I ended up getting sick so we just visited our neighbor on Friday. No trick or treating this year.

A pile of babies in Costume. Can you pick out Miles?

Where did Miles go?

There he is!

3 Months Old

Miles made his 3 months milestone on October 25th. At three months he now gets the biggest grin when he sees us. He loves interacting and laughing with us. He can also track objects moving across a room and loves using his voice making really loud noises that make us both laugh.

Here's his latest stats:
  • Height: 23 inches
  • Weight: approx. 12 lbs (my own measurements)
  • Notes: I love him more and more every day.
  • Hair color: Strawberry blonde but the jury is still out on this.

Virginia Beach Vacation

Miles and I headed off on our 2nd vacation together (and 6th road trip at 3 months old!). This time we got to headed to Virginia Beach for a week with my parents. It was such a wonderful, relaxing time. I have really enjoyed the vacations I've taken with my parents when they visit.

Parent's Visit

My parents came into town for 2 1/2 weeks in October. So I took a break from my mom groups and activities and hung out with my parents. We spent 1 1/2 weeks in Northern Virginia and then a week down in Virginia Beach. The first weekend we headed up to Gettysburg, PA for Geoff's Ironcross race. While he raced Mom, Dad, Miles & I hiked on the Appalachian trail. Here are some pictures:

2 Month Check-up

Here's his latest stats:
  • Height: 22 inches
  • Weight: 11 lbs, 2 oz
  • Health: perfect!
  • Notes: He's the most adorable thing in the world!!!
